Have you ever had someone refer to you in a certain way and you weren’t know what to say?
Yesterday, I had a virtual doctor’s appointment. I really like this doctor; she’s great and easy to talk to. She had someone shadowing her, which was perfectly fine, and I gave my permission, so there were no issues there.
We went over my most recent lab results, the recent ER visit, the sinus infection, the two bacterial infections in my throat, my issues with taking certain medications, and my upcoming surgery.
Frankly, I think I ROCK at how I’ve handled all of this. Better people might have folded with some of the things I’ve dealt with—and am still dealing with.
Maybe someday I’ll give you the whole list, but not today.
Today, we’re going to talk about labels and how they can affect you if you let them.
Unfortunately, I tend to let things bug me until I finally say, “WRONG! I am not accepting that title!”
Anyhow, I had to step away from my computer for a few seconds, and while I was gone, I could still hear them for the most part. The doctor quietly said to the PA shadowing her, “Like I said, she is fragile.”
Me… fragile?
I don’t think so!
Just because my body doesn’t like the crap they keep giving me doesn’t mean I’m fragile. Just because my genetics are a little screwed up doesn’t mean I’m fragile.
I’m about to turn 65. I’ve had a lot of stuff happen, starting at birth. I look fairly good for my age, and most of the time I feel great. Even when I’m in discomfort or pain, I choose to feel good and press on.
I am the last person someone should call fragile.
So yes, I’m a little irritated, but I’m going to use that irritation to do what?
My best to prove them wrong.
Maybe that comment was the kick in the butt I needed to get my stuff together a little faster.
Since the Goals Group I’m in is starting a new quarter, I’ll be gearing my goals toward getting my life back on track, so to speak.
And since very few people voted on what I should do for my TikTok Live, you’ll all be subjected to following me on various journeys—a little hodgepodge of my daily life. Health, writing, art, and maybe even coming with me to the hospital for my upcoming surgery. You’ll definitely be joining me on my trip to Florida later this month.
Because here’s the thing: what other people label you matters far less than what you choose to label yourself.
I refuse to wear the label “fragile.”
Love each of you, and thank you for sticking with me through my rants.
Have a beautiful day, and remember to fill it with hugs, love, laughter, and blessings of all sizes.
Laters!!!
