Happy Sunday!
Well, I did it—I officially started a TikTok account! It’s been interesting so far. I’ve only posted a few pictures, a text link to my website, and (believe it or not) a quick disclaimer that I’m not looking for dates. That part made me laugh, but we won’t dive into that right now.
Next on my list is to set up an official YouTube channel. I had originally planned to create one with my sister, but since she has a lot going on, I’ve decided to go ahead and launch one myself.
It was suggested that I start a channel where I read children’s books—including my own—maybe under the title Stories with Aunt Dorey (or Aunt D). I might do that, but I also want to create something broader. Something that inspires others to realize you’re never too old to…
- Recreate yourself!
- Get healthy!
- Get into shape!
- Start a new project!
- Learn something new!
- Go back to school or earn a degree!
- And so much more!
That’s part of why I started my TikTok account in the first place—to inspire others, while also promoting my books, art, blog, and public speaking.
One of the first things I want to share is my own journey to better health. For years, I thought I was doing fine… until COVID (twice) changed everything. After my second bout, hidden medical issues started coming to the surface: hypothyroidism that turned into Hashimoto’s, mixed with autoimmune disorder, arthritis, and histamine intolerance. On top of that, I was already dealing with the diagnoses of Stage 3 kidney disease and skin cancer (being a redhead with fair skin doesn’t help!). And with a couple of organs already missing, and way too many surgeries… staying as healthy as possible has become more important than ever.
My food allergies have made finding safe, healthy meals a bit of a treasure hunt. My Sweetheart likes to joke that I’m a vegetarian allergic to vegetables—so you can imagine the challenge! I’m actually a pescatarian though.🙃
Then, during my recent trip, I saw myself in photos with new friends and thought: Holy crap! Even though I’ve dropped 10 pounds, I didn’t like what I saw. Yes, I know pictures can be harsher than real life, but still—a huge wake-up call!
So, I started going to the gym with a friend. I’ve gone twice, and decided after I return from my next trip (this week), I’m officially joining. I’m determined to get back in shape and shed the weight and inflammation I’ve carried since COVID.
The truth is, when health struggles pile up, it’s easy to give up—and that’s exactly what I did for a while. I procrastinated, stopped taking care of myself, and even let my dreams slide. That’s one of the reasons my novel Dangerous Desires has taken longer than I hoped, and why my children’s books are on hold.
But I have so many stories waiting to be told—at least 15 more children’s books and 10–20 novels (probably more of each, since I get new character ideas all the time!). And if I don’t get myself healthy, I may not have the energy or time to bring them all to life. Honestly, sometimes I wish I could be immortal just to get it all done. 😉
So, here’s my challenge to you: join me on one of my paths—whether it’s health, creativity, or self-growth. Together, we can push through the funks, shake off procrastination, and keep chasing our dreams.
If you have suggestions, tips, or encouragement, I’d love to hear them.
Till next time… may your week be filled with hugs, love, laughter, and blessings. I’ll update you on Wednesday!
Goodnight😴
