Hello from Philadelphia!
We made it! Yesterday morning at 6:30 a.m., we hit the road and stopped overnight in Harrisonburg, VA. This morning around 10-ish, we set off again and finally rolled into Philadelphia by early evening.
Yesterday also happened to be my birthday, and my friend Mary took me out to one of my favorite restaurants. I ordered gluten-free pasta, but I also had a tiny bite of bread, half of my tiramisu, and most of my pasta. Unfortunately, even with the “gluten-free” label, sauces are often thickened with flour. Between that, the bread, the salad, and dessert… well, let’s just say my stomach made its feelings very clear. I didn’t sleep well, and when I woke up, things were worse. I tried a hot shower, but nope—let’s just say I “tossed my cookies” (twice) and dealt with the other form of evacuation throughout the day. In a way I spent the day paying for that birthday indulgence.”
I’ll admit it was my fault—I knew better—and it wasn’t fun. It did taste good going down, just not on the revisit. Hours later, I finally managed to keep down some chicken broth, a few noodles, a gluten-free protein bar, and plenty of 7-Up (my lifesaver).
The good news? The drive itself was beautiful. Over the course of two days, we crossed seven states: Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, and finally Pennsylvania. We passed through tunnels, soared over towering bridges (not my favorite!), and soaked in the lush green trees and breathtaking Appalachian Mountains. Absolutely stunning.
Today was also the start of the International Toastmasters Conference. After settling into the hotel, Mary and I got dressed for the Opening Ceremonies. I didn’t attend the event itself—I’m here to write, not to participate—but I did walk down to the auditorium to see the incredible variety of traditional outfits worn by attendees from around the world. Such a beautiful display of culture!
After that, I grabbed some soup, came back to my room, and here I am—writing this blog before calling it a night. It’s been a long day, especially after being sick, but I didn’t want to miss posting.
Friday, I plan to visit the Liberty Bell!
So tell me—what fun plans do you have this weekend? Wherever you are, may your days be filled with hugs, love, laughter, and blessings.
Until next time,
💫
