Pride, Prejudice, and Personal Progress ~ A Jane Austen Weekend!

I am a fan of Jane Austen’s works and truly wish I were an author of her caliber. This weekend, I watched two separate versions of Pride and Prejudice and also listened to an Audible version. My next favorite is Emma. I’ve seen three versions, and while I do have a favorite, I tend to watch all three either in one sitting or at least within a weekend. A few weekends ago, I enjoyed a Sense and Sensibility marathon.

Jane Austen is and was, a well-loved and respected author. She is someone I would have loved to meet.

This upcoming weekend (or week) will possibly be dedicated to Persuasion. I highly recommend all of her books and, for the most part, their movie adaptations. I encourage everyone to watch them and form their own opinions. One of Austen’s works, which she did not finish before her death, was Sanditon. It was later turned into a series, and I highly recommend it as well.

Now, for my own writing…

This weekend, I wrote an Artist Statement about myself and my artistic aspirations. It started off slowly, but eventually, I managed to write a few paragraphs. Surprisingly, I even turned it in early!

On another note, the novella I’ve been working on is closer to being done, and the first few chapters are already with the editor. Now, I need to buckle down and finish it. With the Author Con coming up in March, I must double my efforts to complete the novella, get it to a few beta readers, and then back to the editor, and then have it formatted before publishing.

Dangerous Desires—with fingers crossed, and consistent writing—should be completed within two weeks. I hope you all enjoy paranormal romance with a few steamy parts. Below is the first page of Dangerous Desires. I’d love to know what you think—message me with your thoughts!

Dangerous Desires

“Oh MG! Ash! You caught him where; with… did you say your neighbor? I didn’t think old Mrs. Simpson would be up to bedroom antics, isn’t she like 90?” My best friend and confidant Beth said in a semi-serious tone.

Laughing so hard I thought my sides were going to split, “No, not Mrs. Simpson, silly, the other neighbor, Jessica Twilley the short blonde with the enlarged upper area (gesturing big boobs). The worst part is I found out they had often done it in my bed. (shiver as if grossed out). At least Jessica’s cat got fed before I found them. They saw me, and I ran out and slammed the door, upon locking Richard out.  Not sure what they did after Richard finally stopped banging on the door, yelling, it’s not what you think, come on Ash, I love you, can’t we talk. I tuned him out and began packing my stuff in every suitcase and box I could find. I had more boxes delivered from a moving company, which surprisingly arrived the same day, so I packed everything that was mine. Then I was able to get Mrs. Simpson’s son Jeff, who’s had a crush on me for about a year, to take everything except for what I brought with me to my storage unit. In the meantime, I met with the landlord and since my lease is about up, I told him I was not renewing, and that Richard might be interested in the apartment, but that my name better not be anywhere on the lease or there would be legal actions toward both of them. After that, since all my stuff and I were out of the apartment, I turned in my keys and headed here before heading to Aunt Becky’s. You know she’s been wanting me to visit for a long time. So, I figured it was time I took her up on her invitation and before you ask, I did call her, and she knows I’m stopping by here first to visit. Oh, she said to tell you that you guys are invited for the weekend, and we can have a celebration party of sorts.”

I hope you enjoyed the first page and are excited to read the full book. It’s not Jane Austen, but it’s mine—and that’s a start.

Till next time…
May your week be filled with love, laughter, friendship, hugs, and blessings for you and your family.
