Hello my friends! This weekend has been so nice and peaceful. My Sweetheart and I took a weekend away. His dad came to dog/house sit so we could take a break.
We decided to visit Cookeville, TN, for our short trip. Why Cookeville, you may ask? Well, first, we have friends who own a little bed & breakfast there. Second, there is a bookstore I wanted to talk to about possibly adding my books to their selection. And third, it wasn’t that far of a drive.
We arrived midday on Friday and had a wonderful visit with our friends and their adorable pup Annie. We sat outside roasting marshmallows and spending quality time just “being” and talking. I took some pictures of the fire (love fire—guess being a fire sign brings that out 🤷🏼‍♀️). The pictures came out really well, and I will most likely use them in my art. After we called it a night, we came inside and played a game with GamFam (my sister, her hubby, and us) for a short time and then called it a night.
On Saturday, we decided not to attend our Toastmaster meeting (usually, even when on vacation or sick, we go virtually), but today, we slept in. It was great to sleep past 7, not have to be anywhere specific, or have our dogs waking us up to go out. I love them, and as a dog mom, that is part of it, but every now and then it’s good to be able to stay in bed and snuggle in silence. Anyhow, after we got up and started moving around, we decided to go to the bookstore. If you are ever in Cookeville, stop in. It is a quaint little store named PLENTY, and I would love to have my books there. I’ll include a link below at the end.
Next, we went to eat at Crawdaddy’s, which is right across the street from the bookstore. The food was scrumptious. We got the stuffed portobello mushrooms for our appetizer. I had the mango mahi with sweet potato fries and creamed spinach, while my Sweetheart had the shrimp & scallops creole with broccoli and roasted red potatoes. All of the food looked and tasted great. HIGHLY recommend. Our waitress was pleasant and gave us an ice cream flavor recommendation when we told her where we were headed next. I have to say, she was right.
After leaving Crawdaddy’s, we walked to the Cream City Ice Cream & Coffee House. We opted to share and got the “flight of ice cream,” which was four kid-sized scoops of whatever flavors you wanted. We chose chocolate raspberry truffle, Mexican chocolate, Superman, and the recommended flavor of red velvet. Yummy! The red velvet actually had red velvet cake in it and was oh so good. My favorite was the chocolate raspberry truffle; it had tiny chocolate-covered raspberry cream candies in it. All were yummy—try them.
Now for the bed and breakfast: The Dragonfly Landing. This place is comfy, with country charm. When you walk in, the living room area is to the left and is huge. You could definitely hold a party, retreat, or family gathering of at least 20 people there. To the right is the dining room with a beautiful wooden picnic-style table that could seat six to eight people. The kitchen has a breakfast bar that is open to the living room. There is a laundry room and two extremely clean bathrooms (they thought of everything you might forget). The master bedroom has a vanity most women (and some men) would love, a large bedroom, a small yet roomy walk-in closet, and a dresser. Upstairs, there are two bedrooms with twin beds in each, a bookcase nook, and nice closet space. There is a large screen TV to watch, but we didn’t even turn it on. The outside is quiet, cozy, and has a fire pit in the back and two other areas with benches and chairs to relax in. I took a lot of pictures of this old tree (reminds me of the Harry Potter tree except smaller), any way the night sky, sounds, fire and roasting marshmallows ~ all made for a picturesque setting. Which I took advantage of with my camera.
Nice little city, rural, and a great place to “Just Be.”
I highly recommend visiting each of the places I mentioned and more. Give yourself a quiet break and check out the following links to their websites and information…
