When Technology Takes a Day Off: An Unexpected Pause in a Connected WorldđŸ“±đŸ“žđŸ“±

Mid-Week Mishap

I was all set to write my blog yesterday—truly, I was—then the unthinkable happened

I didn’t have phone service!

What?! No, I can’t be without my phone!

Well, I was—unless I was near Wi-Fi or satellite. Thinking my phone was the problem, I promptly got in my car and drove to the nearest phone store. As I got out of the car, someone told me not to waste my time, that the service was down.

Silly me thought, okay, I can at least check out new phones. As I walked in, I saw that most of the employees were pretty much twiddling their thumbs.

I asked what was going on, and they told me that the system was down nationwide. I said, “Well, can I look at a new phone or ask some questions?”

I was told, “But the system is down, so we can’t do anything—not even look at phones.”

This got me thinking: the whole system was down. True, I could text if I was near Wi-Fi. I could also make calls if I could connect to satellite (which I tried, and it didn’t work well). Then, if there was an emergency—of course, you could use the 911 system, which works regardless of whether your phone has service or not.

But what about the emergencies that are not 911-worthy? Your car breaks down and you don’t have any service—what do you do? You have someone who is supposed to be calling (business or personal) and you don’t have service. You can’t text
 what do you do?

Better question
 what did I do?

As I drove out of the parking lot of the largest phone carrier, I went to what is possibly the next largest phone carrier.

I’ve thought about getting another line to use as a work line, but after yesterday, I didn’t want just another line; I wanted another carrier. Thankfully, I was able to get an extremely decent price on a phone plan (being over 55 helped), a new phone, and it is still below what my main carrier was quoting me for a new line.

Now, I’m ready for the next phone emergency (đŸ€ž that won’t happen). This will also work for my business/author events. I can use the business phone to take payments without giving up my ability to take calls.

The time when I couldn’t use my phone was not only frustrating, but also kind of nice—not dealing with texts or calls. I may have to take a few moments here and there to “pretend” the service is down again.

So
now I’m going to close this message, play a little ESO, and hopefully go to bed early (at least by 2).

Have a great week, and I’ll update you on Sunday about my workouts then.

Hope your week is filled with hugs, love, laughter, and blessings.đŸ€—

Goodnight!😮
