Stuck at the Prologue Door (Because My Characters Locked It)🔐
It’s like a Great Prologue Standoff! Because my characters are TRYING to take a holiday break!
I’ve been trying to write the prologue for Dating Die-Sasters for the last week, and I’m stuck. I know what I want to write — I have the full scene running on loop in my head — but it’s like the characters are holding the door shut to letting the words flow.
They aren’t giving me the point of view to write it from, and it is extremely frustrating.😒
I wanted to get the prologue written and then pick up where I left off previously (before their last vacation) in chapter 11. But I may have to save the prologue for later, possibly even the end.
As a writer, I find (and this may sound crazy) that I have a kind of dialogue with my characters. While I’m writing, they give me their ideas and opinions… crazy, I know, but that’s how it is for me. Even with my children’s books, I see the character and their story plays out in my mind — kind of like a mini movie, scene by scene. So when they decide to take a vacation or a holiday break, I’m on my own. Which, in reality, is fine — and again, this might sound crazy — but I like the idea of communicating with my characters.
When my characters are on board, I feel the words flow easier. Which is why I’m having trouble with the prologue.
The prologue is where I’m going to introduce the villains and kill the coffee shop lady that ticked me off. I know — passive-aggressive — but I’m okay with it. Better to deal with someone in my books than in reality. I could get hurt in real life. 😂
I decided I’m going to seek some guidance from my editor on points of view, since my prologue will either have several or be from that of an observer. Ohhhh… the observer could be the villain. Hummm — possible. Anyway, I’m going to start back on chapter 11 until we (my characters and me) can come to an agreement.
On a more practical note, I’m wrapping this up early today. My eyes are giving me a little issue, and seeing to read or write is a bit of a challenge. Yes, I’ve been to the eye doctor. The first prescription didn’t work, so now I’m waiting on a specialty one that regular pharmacies don’t carry. Plus, it’s really expensive, even with insurance. Scary how medicines can be. I’m also going to try some natural/homeopathic options in the meantime. Fingers crossed something helps and soon. I’m extremely grateful for my eyes and sight ~ and I’m being reminded how important they are.
Anyhow, have a fabulous week, and may it be filled with hugs, love, laughter, and blessings.😇
Take Care ~ Later!🦋
