Have you ever been somewhere you wished you could stay? Been with a group of people you’d love to have within driving distance so you could get together more often?
Well, that was my weekend. It started on Thursday and, sadly, will end tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. when we check out of the Airbnb we’re staying in.
First off, the Airbnb is one of the nicest I’ve ever stayed in—a huge house with about eight bedrooms and five bathrooms. It has a TV room, a beautiful kitchen, and a game room. There’s also a pool and a hot tub. That’s all great, but adding in that deer were sleeping on the lawn (front and back), ducks and turtles filled the water, and there was a groundhog or maybe a beaver (he was way too quick to see the tail)—well, this place is just fabulous.
They even have kayaks we could have used, but didn’t. I could easily see myself staying here just to write, with the crickets singing in the background, splashes from the water where the ducks are playing, and turtles jumping off a fallen tree trunk into the water.
Match that with a group of fun friends, and you have the makings of a perfect weekend.
I volunteered to be the cook for the trip, and as some of you may know, I enjoy cooking—especially for a small group. I didn’t cook on Thursday, but Friday I made a full totchos breakfast (tater tots with various toppings and spicy cheese). The toppings and cheese get mixed into the eggs and then served over the tater tots. My Sweetheart eats this sometimes three times a week and has told friends about it, so that’s what I made—and it was a hit! We had it again on Saturday morning.
Friday night we ordered chicken from a local hot chicken place. Saturday, I made jambalaya, and it was another hit. Sunday, I made crockpot French toast. Most of our friends had to leave on Sunday, and since we have to get the Airbnb ready for an early check-out tomorrow, I won’t be cooking anymore while we’re here.
I sent the four guys (my Sweetheart and three of our friends) out to have some fun. I thought I’d take a nap, but instead, I sat outside writing, did my weekly and daily goals, and now I’m winding down—chatting with a few friends online and thinking about watching a movie… or finally taking that nap.
This weekend has been awesome for another reason as well—my debut novel was published! There were (and still are) a few kinks, but it’s worth it to me. Once we get the problem fixed, I’ll put a link to it on my website. Fingers crossed and prayers answered, I’ll have physical copies with me on Sunday at the Southern Literary Festival on October 19th from 3 to 5 p.m.
Now, I’m going to close out and maybe go make myself a sandwich.
Have a great night and an even better week. May they be filled with hugs, love, laughter, and many blessings.
Later.🌛
