Hello and Happy Sunday!
I’m still in Texas visiting my sister and her family. Quality time feels more precious than ever these days. As I watch my niece shoot up like a vine climbing the side of a house, I’m reminded of how quickly time passes. I’m 5’3” and she’s already up to my nose. Her shoe size has surpassed mine, and before I know it, she’ll be a teenager who may not want to spend as much time with her “weird aunt.”
This morning we went to church, and the message was: “Words Matter.” The pastor brought up the old childhood rhyme:
Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words can never hurt me.
As adults, we know that couldn’t be further from the truth. I can personally attest that words often do more lasting damage than sticks or stones. Physical wounds may heal, but emotional, mental, or spiritual wounds can linger for years, quietly shaping other areas of our lives.
Today’s focus was on the word “sorry.” Are you the offender or the offended? Is there someone you need to say “I’m sorry” to? Or, if someone came to you with an apology, are you willing to accept it—and truly let things go?
It was a powerful reminder that words do matter. We should pause before speaking words that might wound another—especially when it comes to children.
Update on My Week
I’ve been soaking up as much family time as I can while also nursing both knees (one twisted, one already troublesome). On the writing front, I’m reworking parts of Chapter 6, writing a brief promotional description, and polishing up the epilogue. Each step brings me closer to publication, which fills me with equal parts nerves and excitement.
Tomorrow night I have two Toastmasters meetings. I’ll be promoting contests and encouraging members to step out of their comfort zones. Competing can be scary, but the growth and confidence it brings are invaluable.
I head home on Wednesday, so I may or may not get a chance to post that day. I’m planning to arrive at the airport very early since I’ll be moving a bit slower — and after my flight here, I want security to go as smoothly as possible.
Until next time, I hope your week is filled with hugs, love, laughter, and blessings.
Have a good night. 💖
