Scottish Spirit, Smoky Mountain Smiles, and Tender Moments With A Fur-Baby

Hello and Happy Almost Thursday!

I completely lost track of time today and almost missed writing to you. I woke up sore from my time at the gym yesterday. First time in years—and I definitely felt it this morning.

The day started with taking one of my fur-babies, Tex, to the vet. He hasn’t been doing well: wetting his bed even with a diaper on, eating only one meal a day, and his back legs have been shaky. He’s a senior (over 13 years old), and I was worried he wouldn’t be coming home with us. But the angels were watching. It turns out he has a bladder issue.

The vet mentioned Tex’s abdomen was tender and wanted to take x-rays, but Tex wasn’t having it. Getting his blood was hard enough (and yes, the only one who got bit was me—since I was holding his head). It was also mentioned that, because of his age and health concerns, the next visit might mean having to say goodbye. Soo… he’s not going back!

Honestly, I know when the time comes it will be hard, but if he has to go, we’ll be with him. As heartbreaking as it will be, we’ll make sure he leaves surrounded by love.

Now for a lighter topic—Waynesville, NC.

On our recent trip, one of the stops was Waynesville, NC, because of its rich Scottish history. One of my upcoming books will feature a Scottish House Spirit, and since Waynesville has strong Scottish heritage, I’ll be setting much of the story there (well… kind of. I’ll explain that another time).

We were only able to stay one night, but it was wonderful. We stayed at the Smoky Mountain Inn, which was surprisingly nice—very clean, a decent breakfast, and beautiful location. I highly recommend it.

The Scotsman Public House was our main destination in NC, and I’m so glad we went. We had dinner there and wow—the food was OMG Fabulous! I had the vegan cottage pie, which was so delicious. I don’t remember what Mary had, but she said it was good, and I’ll share a photo of it too. Dessert was their only option, a crème brûlée cheesecake, and let me just say—it was the best cheesecake I’ve ever had. I’m usually not a cheesecake fan, but theirs completely converted me.

The staff and patrons were incredibly friendly. Heather and Ashley, two patrons, even gave me ideas for locations to set my protagonist’s house. Joey and Dawson, our servers, were so supportive and suggested that once the book is published, I should reach out to the manager about possibly hosting a signing there. That’s a long shot, but I know one thing for sure—I’ll definitely be eating there again!

I also got to meet the owner of Blue Ridge Books. She was very informative and might even be open to an author event in the future.

It was such a great stop, and honestly, I may have to drive back to Waynesville just for another slice of that cheesecake. It’s the perfect spot for a weekend trip.

Wishing you all a fabulous week filled with hugs, love, laughter, and blessings.

Now here are a few photos…
