Hello and happy mid-week!
This may be a short week for some since Friday is the 4th of July. Our country’s independence is something to be celebrated—I just wish it were quieter.
Unfortunately, the beautiful fireworks scare and torture those with PTSD and animals. Every year, many dogs, cats, and other pets go missing during this time — primarily due to the loud noises of fireworks. And then, there are those who are just cruel… but we won’t go into that here.
I have a dog who’s scared of his own shadow half the time, especially during thunderstorms—and, of course, fireworks. Getting him outside for his final nightly potty break is heartbreaking. Not to mention extremely hard..
I can only imagine what it’s like for animals outside, especially those unaccustomed to such loud sounds. Those that are tied up and have nowhere to hide… well, to me, that is cruel. The fear they must feel is something I wouldn’t wish on anyone.
Let’s not forget our veterans — those who have spent time in war zones, the very people responsible for the freedom we celebrate. For some, the sound of fireworks is a visceral reminder of time spent under fire and could cause flashbacks, pain, and emotional/mental torture.
As I said earlier, fireworks are beautiful and fun… but—if we can send a rocket to the moon, why, oh why, can’t we invent quiet fireworks?
Don’t we owe it to our military heroes and our beloved pets for them and us to enjoy holidays without fear?
It would also help if there were limits on how many days people can shoot off fireworks. A day before and a day after should be enough — but I’ve been hearing them for nearly a week now. If, like last year, they will go on for several days to a week afterwards too.
I’m not trying to sound like a prude—because I’m not. I’m a concerned relative of several people with PTSD and the loving fur-mom of an extremely scared dog. Only wish we could have safe and quiet celebrations for everyone.
Now, onto brighter things…
We’ve entered a new quarter in our goals group! I didn’t win the money pot this time, but it was so close (only a $1 difference!). The winner’s choice was to donate the prize to the Alzheimer’s Association.
With the new quarter comes new goals. I’ve set:
- Two daily goals
- Two weekly
- One major monthly
- One quarterly
Of course, writing, editing, and art are still core goals—but they’ve been kicked up a notch in importance.
I’ve also added:
- A daily Duolingo session
- Weekly reading and exercise goals
- Quarterly: completing large-scale art projects (I’m eyeing a few extra-large canvases!)
I’ll keep you posted on how the goals—and I—are doing. Today’s progress has been solid, and I intend to keep up that streak.
Wishing you a Happy and Safe Independence Day for you, your family, and your fur-babies.
Please remember to keep your animals safe and inside — and comfort those who might need a little extra love this weekend.
Wishes of hugs, love, laughter, and blessings.
As always, to those who have served our country and her people – Thank you from the bottom of my heart. ♥️
Goodnight! 🌙
