Midway Milestones and Manuscript Moves

Today, I printed out all the pages of my book that are completed so far.
I still have several chapters left to write, but I wanted to get a head start on editing. Yes, I know—it’s considered a big writing “no-no” to edit while you’re still drafting.

I’ve heard (and read) it’s better to let the story flow freely. Get it all out. Get it all down—on paper or into the computer file. But… I have a feeling that starting the editing process now may help me find the right conclusion for this story.

I want to answer the same questions I’ll be giving to my beta readers. I want to wrap the hearts of my characters in such a way that readers feel it — and care deeply about them too.

I already have some ideas and a few suggestions to revisit. These will help me tie together various threads in the story and (hopefully) bring it to a satisfying conclusion. An ending that many—ideally most—will love, in all its good, bad, and bittersweet pieces.

So, my editing process officially begins in the next few days.

I also attended a webinar on writing a query letter, finding a literary agent, and all the other helpful knowledge writers need on the path to publication.

I already have someone I’m working with as an agent, and I have real faith in her. Together, I believe we can take the right steps to find a publisher (or not) and have success.

But first… I need to finish the book.
Then edit it.
Then get it to my beta readers.
Then make any changes or updates.
Then send it to a professional editor.
And then—hopefully—to an acquisitions editor at one or more publishing houses.

I’ll admit, I didn’t think I’d want a publisher. But now, I’m seriously considering it. The webinar answered a lot of questions, and when it comes to my novels, I’m leaning toward the traditional publishing route—if it’s a good fit and the timeline isn’t too long.

For my children’s books, I’ll continue to self-publish. That way, I maintain full creative control over illustrations, titles, and distribution. With my novels, I still want a fair amount of control — but I’d be open to certain changes if they truly strengthen the story.

There’s a lot on my mind, but I’m beginning the beginning—and crafting the ending.

Until next time, have a wonderful week. May it be filled with hugs, love, laughter, and blessings.

Now go read a good book! 📚✨
