As I sit on the couch, all cozy in a furry (fake fur) blanket, warm hoodie, and comfy, soft leggings, writing this post, I’m hoping this cold and rainy front that has crept in will go away before Saturday.
Why, you ask?
Because the first Annual Author Con in Smyrna, TN is this weekend, and I have a table there! I’ll be at the event both days from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
I’ll be selling both of my children’s books, signing readers up for my upcoming newsletter and website, and sharing a sneak peek of Dangerous Desires—and possibly Dating Die~Sasters!
Preparing for an Author Event
Getting ready for an author event, signing, or reading is a learning experience. First, you have to make sure you have enough books—that’s priority number one. Then, you need to gather essential items, like:
✅ A tablecloth (in various sizes—I’m hoping mine will fit this weekend! I think mine is 6 ft, but my table is 8 ft. We’ll see.)
✅ A cash box with cash for making change
✅ A Square account (or another payment method)
✅ Business cards
✅ Clipboards, pens, and flyers
✅ Some fun extras—stickers, candy, bookmarks, etc.
I’ve probably missed a few things, but these are a good start. Each author has a list of the supplies they do their best to have at all their shows. I know I don’t have all the fun things I’d like yet, and for this event, if a certain big company doesn’t get my order here in time, I’ll be missing a few things (two orders are already three days late😬).
The good news? My books arrived on time! So, at least I’m set on that front.
Now, I just have to organize everything and print out my current flyers. Tomorrow, I’m meeting with a friend who’s going to help me put together a sneak peek page with a QR code for both of my upcoming books. We’ll also be designing a template for my newsletter.
