Writer’s block – the art of turning “not” writing into a sport. Procrastination becomes your companion. Ideas of things to write about become things to do instead. When you are in the grips of Writer’s Block, or as I like to say, you’ve been bitten by the Procrastination bug, you might get caught up in the “social media quicksand trap” or be tangled up in the “binge-watching vines.” And God forbid you deal with the “self-doubt snake.” The snake is the worst, and if you believe what it whispers in your ears, you may never write your stories.
Your house may become the cleanest it’s ever been; you may get digital decluttering done, and the exercise that you’ve been meaning to start actually happens. The book you’ve been meaning to read gets read.
But what about your story, your book…? How do you get off of the Writer’s Block Journey? Do you find your passion again? Is there something that “clicks” and you just begin again, picking up where you left off? What can help?
One thing I’ve done is take a creative writing class to help kickstart my “muse,” so to say. The class has been a great help and inspiration. I even found a new writing love that I didn’t think I would like to write, let alone read, and that is poetry. I’ve read some poetry, but it never really stuck. Our first set of assignments was to write poetry, and I really enjoyed these exercises. It opened up a new writing avenue for me, which I plan to explore more in the future, possibly even in one of my books. Maybe one of my characters will write poetry, possibly leaving clues in the form of poetry. It’s an open door of ideas.
One thing I have realized and have even mentioned in previous blogs is that I am NOT organized. Once I am able to get a grip on my schedule issue, keep a daily log or timesheet, and block time to do what I need/want/desire to do, I believe I will make more progress.
Am I there yet? Have I conquered procrastination demons or made it out of my Jungle Journey?
No, not quite, but I have made progress. I’ve rewritten chapter one of my novel (as part of a class project) and am happy with the changes. I’m also feeling more motivated to finish up the descriptions I need to give to my illustrator to finish three of my kids’ books and then get them published. If all goes well and the way I’d like, 2025 will be a good year for me in publishing several books. I may even contact an agent (they would definitely kick my butt into gear).
I have a few other suggestions to help with writer’s block, but I will save those for next time. Until next week, have a great night and may your week be filled with love, laughter, hugs, and blessings.🌻
P.S. The Jungle Journey and its references are from a speech I did. It covers so much, especially when I’m dealing with procrastination.
