More Than Just Clothes 👗

I spent today going through my closet, trying things on to see if they still fit, still looked good, or if it was finally time to let them go.

After trying on all my dresses, skirts, and a few blouses, my closet now has a little more breathing room.

Honestly, I had been putting off decluttering my clothes for months.

Growing up, I bounced between my mother, father, great-grandmother, and grandmother. Needless to say, moving around that much meant I didn’t always have things of my own. Because of that, my little inner child doesn’t always like getting rid of things.

There is always that thought of, “Maybe I’ll fit back into it someday,” or “I could use that for something else,” or even, “I’ll save it and give it to my niece when she’s older.”

So, when I start cleaning out my closet, I have to take a very simple approach: yes or no.

I also send pictures to my sister for her official “yea or nay” vote. That can be entertaining because, for the most part, we have very different tastes in clothing.

I like black. She doesn’t.

I like earth tones, especially brown. Somehow, brown has personally offended her, and she considers it absolutely horrid.

Getting a thumbs-up from her on anything black or brown is no easy task.

If I like an outfit but I’m on the fence about it, I’ll snap a picture and send it to her. Do I always go with her opinion? Not necessarily. But if I’m already unsure, her vote usually helps tip the scales.

I have to admit, though, cleaning out my closet felt good.

Letting go of things I can’t wear, won’t wear, or haven’t worn in years was surprisingly freeing.

My next decluttering project will be my office. Books, stickers, papers, supplies, and all the other treasures that seem to multiply when I’m not looking.

Today felt like a bit of a breakthrough. A cleansing, you might say.

I’ve noticed that when we start clearing out our closets, drawers, offices, or garages, life has a funny way of clearing out other things too. Sometimes making space physically helps us make space mentally and emotionally as well.

So, I’m curious to see what the Universe has in store next.

Until then, have a fabulous week. Fill it with hugs, love, laughter, and many blessings.

P.S. I’ll keep you posted.
