Hello, my Sunday friends! I hope your weekend has been a good one. Mine has been wrapped up pretty much with Toastmasters. Yesterday (Saturday), as most Saturdays go, I went to my Toastmasters club meeting. We had an educational session. This session was to give an orientation for new members and a little refresher for our legacy members. That went well, and I did my best to end the meeting earlier than usual because three of our members were in the Area contest, which was across town. My sweetie and I attended virtually because one of our dogs is not well. We also had to be at the Area contest. Both of us had a role: him as a judge (eventually ending up being a Sgt. at Arms), and I was the speaker that the Evaluation contestants had to evaluate.
Personally, I have been competing in contests for most of my time in Toastmasters, and if I wasn’t competing, I was an official of some sort or running the contests. The one yesterday needed some help. The Contest Chair was new and unsure of what she was doing, while the Chief Judge did not properly brief the officials and kept telling everyone, “he wasn’t in charge.” FYI – Yes, he was, especially since the Contest Chair was new and clueless. It wasn’t the worst-run contest I’ve attended, but it was definitely a small cluster.
So, my Saturday was primarily Toastmasters. Saturday night was gaming with the GamFam, which was fun.
Today, my sweetie and I walked to our favorite coffee shop, which helped me reach my exercise goal for the week. Then I went to another Toastmasters meeting, except this one was for teenagers. The Toastmasters organization has a youth program. This program lasts for approximately eight weeks and helps youth to learn about leadership, speaking in public, and extemporaneous speaking, which will help in obtaining a job, going to college, and taking a positive step into life. I wish they had a Toastmasters Youth Program when I was a teenager. Not that I would have joined, but I might have. Anyhow, I will be assisting with this program for the eight meetings. It was great seeing some of these kids step up into some of the roles on day one. I’m sure all of the kids have potential, but one definitely stood out, not only for public speaking but he shows signs of entrepreneurial maturity. These kids are getting ready for college, and what a good time for them to start this program.
I recommend visiting a club near or far (I often visit clubs virtually in Ireland). You can visit as often as you like. If you want to join one, great; if not, that’s okay too. One of the clubs I belong to is Harpeth View Toastmasters. Visitors are always welcome. Harpeth View Toastmasters
Now for a quick goals update: I am still at 0 missed days. So, the Senior Dogs Rescue will be receiving the donation this time around.
Have a great week, and may it be filled with lots of love, laughter, hugs, and blessings.🌻
