Smiles

What makes you smile?

Today while my boyfriend and I were at a restaurant for lunch a little girl peered over the seat to look at me with her big brown eyes. I couldn’t help but wave and smile.  She did the same and then she peeped over again, just her eyes this time – I slowly waved and smiled. I could see by her eyes that she was smiling and just having fun. Then her mother made her sit down.  It made me think how much fun it is to see like a child, to smile at strangers and have a genuine smile come back. To smile as an innocent and not worry about what bad stuff is out there -or- is that person only smiling because they feel they have to -or- what are they thinking about me -or- whatever other negative we have been taught, or our brains have learned to come up with.  To just smile with the openness of a child. Smile with warmth and sincerity. Can we do that and not think about it, just do it?

I think I’m going to pick a day next week and just smile at everyone and everything.  Not just with the corners of my mouth turning up, but with my eyes and with my heart. I will smile from my heart as children do.

I’ll be smiling from the inside out. 😉
