I am still feeling a wee bit high from winning the District 63 Toastmasters Table Topics Competition this past Friday night at the International Toastmasters District 63 Conference. Me I actually won. Out of 84 or so clubs, I answered a question and had the best answer. I’m still going “what, who me”? The look on my face in the pictures says it all. I was thrilled while also in disbelief.
You may ask (like I did) what is Table Topics? Well my wise boyfriend gave a great explanation on Facebook – the table topics contest evaluates extemporaneous speaking. Short and to the point (unlike most of my answers when asked a question). LOL
I was also thrilled to learn that the district level is the highest anyone can go, and so I don’t have to travel to Chicago and I am considered a grand champion since the District is the highest that they go with table topics. Yea!
Back to my feelings. I was on Cloud 9 and even had a slight touch of celebrity status for a short time. So much fun. Although before the contest I had an extremely upset stomach and got to know the hotel restroom quite well. LOL (they designed the doors for giants, the coat hooks were at the top of the door, like normal. But the top of the door was about 8 feet in the air). Anyway, my stomach spoke very loudly but thankfully it was quite during my time on the stage.
The question we were all asked (separately): Are you the Hero or the Villain in your story? This is a great question and I would like to think that most people can see that we are both. As humans we have a tendency to be harder on ourselves then others and when it comes down to it, no one can save us but us. That was my answer. I am my own Villain and my own Hero. I knock myself down and beat myself up and then the Red Headed Superhero swoops in and saves me.
I entertain myself, I respect myself, I appreciate things about myself, I like myself and extremely important – I love myself.
I would like you to ask yourself when that Villain starts knocking you around – do you let him or do you call for Superhero You. If you don’t I hope you dig deep down and know that you have a Superhero within you and that you are amazing. Over the last several years I’ve gotten to know me and I have come to realize I Rock!
I’m grateful and thrilled that I won this contest for Toastmasters. Because I Am A Winner and this question helped me also see I’ve been winning all along.
Love yourself and know you are a Winner!
I Won!
